From Limited to Omnipotent Government
Government educators have predictably failed to teach "limited government."
The principle of “limited government” gets a lot of lip service in the US. In our schools’ social studies standards as well as our curriculum for immigrants, it has long been presented as foundational to our country.
And yet, the trend in our ideology and policy has been toward, not limited, but limitless government: or as Ludwig von Mises termed it, “omnipotent government”. Since 2020, government officials have arrogated to themselves the power to lock down whole states, shut down whole industries, and mandate medical procedures. And the public largely acquiesced to it all.
Apparently, whatever government “educators” are doing to instill an appreciation for “limited government” in the citizenry is failing utterly.
It goes to show that government cannot be entrusted with the role of educating the public or with the task of limiting itself.
